North Miami is a city in northeast Miami-Dade County. The city does not have its own marriage license office. All licenses are issued by the Miami-Dade County Clerk of Court. The main office is at Overtown Transit Village South, 601 NW 1 Court, Suite 1900, Miami, FL 33136. Phone: (786) 469-2400.

North Miami residents can use any of the six district court locations in the county. One in the north Miami-Dade area may be more convenient than the downtown office. Each can handle marriage license applications the same way.

Both partners show up together with valid photo ID. The clerk accepts driver licenses, passports, military IDs, state IDs, alien registration cards, and naturalization certificates. U.S. citizens bring a Social Security number. If you were married before, you need the date it ended.

The office is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Walk-ins and appointments are both options. An appointment online can speed things up.

North Miami Marriage License Costs

The standard marriage license fee is $86. With a premarital course, the fee drops to $61. Under Florida Statute 741.0305, the course has to be from a registered provider and completed within one year of applying. It also waives the three-day waiting period for Florida residents.

Clerk-performed ceremonies cost $30. They take cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. Personal checks are not accepted. Duplicate licenses are $30. Amendments need a court order and $30.

Certified copies: $9 for the first copy, $7 for each one after. Multi-year searches cost $2 per year when the date is not known.

The Miami-Dade Online Marriage License Bureau is free to use. It has records from 1971 to the present. Search by name or license number to find both spouses and the marriage date. Available around the clock.

Records from before 1971 are not in the online database. Call the clerk at (786) 469-2400 for older records. Records before June 6, 1927 are county-level only. The state began statewide marriage data collection on that date.

State records from 1927 on are available from the Florida Department of Health. State copies are $5 for the first, $4 after. VitalChek charges $15 plus $7 processing. The county clerk is generally faster and cheaper for North Miami marriages.

Under Florida Statute 741.07, ordained ministers, judges, clerks, deputy clerks, and Florida notary publics may perform the ceremony. Witnesses are not legally required. The officiant returns the signed license to the clerk within 10 days after the ceremony. Recording takes about 60 days.
